Candi Staton

2008 Performer

Music legend Candi Staton continues to reinvent herself after 40 years of recording classic songs. She was the First Lady of Southern Soul in the 60s, a disco diva in the 70s, a gospel star in the 80s, and TV personality in the 80s. Staton just finished recording her first every praise and worship CD, “I will Sing My Praise to You” for Emtro Gospel.

Propelled by the passionate radio sing “Just Jesus”, the new CD will hit stores nationwide on October 21, 2008.

Staton’s recorded a dozen best selling gospel albums that have ranged in style from country and blues to club beats.

Staton hosted the “New Direction / Say Yes” musical TV series on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) from 1986 – 2004. Although many of her R&B songs have been featured in films in the past, this fall “When Will I?” will be her first gospel tune to make a movie when featured in Tyler Perry’s new film “A Family That Prays in the Meantime”.

Staton’s excited about the new Emtro CD which features Staton originals and her takes on songs by Israel and Matt Redman. These are the same songs we sing at church, she says. “These songs are very uplifting. They get you in the right spirit for church. It’s just like you have to be hungry before you go to a restaurant. These songs get you hungry for the Lord and then you go to church and eat at the Lord’s table.”
